Description

We are seeking a caring person to serve as a volunteer legal guardian for "Bonnie". Bonnie is in her early 50’s and lives in a supportive community setting in Monmouth County for individuals with behavioral health issues. She is in need a new guardian that will work with her on meeting her goals related to housing, finances, mental/physical wellbeing, and various other things, while including her in the decision-making process. She values religion, reading/learning, her boyfriend, and Marvel superheroes and she will energetically talk about things that matter to her! The ideal volunteer guardian will help to maximize her autonomy and have sufficient time and patience, especially in the beginning, to develop a positive rapport with Bonnie and learn her strengths, as well as areas where she is need of more support.

Our volunteer legal guardians have the following responsibilities: Visit at least monthly; Use substituted judgement to secure the care and provide opportunity for activities and enrichment the Incapacitated Person (IP) would have chosen, had they had the capacity to do so; Ensure the IP has a safe, suitable living arrangement in the least restrictive environment possible; Arrange for needed support services and monitor the quality of the services; Assess health needs and arrange and authorize medical treatment; Manage personal property and income and utilize funds to ensure necessary support and care.

The minimum time commitment is one year, though many volunteers form a bond with the person in their care. Our average guardianship lasts four years.
