Volunteers needed to collect for and create Blessing Bags for community members seeking shelter from the cold weather.
Code Blue Alerts are issued when:
• Temperatures will reach 25 degrees Fahrenheit or lower without precipitation;
• Temperatures will reach 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower with precipitation;
• National Weather Service wind-chill temperature will be zero degrees Fahrenheit or less for a period of two hours or more
As our neighbors seek warmth from the frigid weather we would like to provide them with a Blessing Bag to help them through the day or night. The following list includes a few suggested comfort items needed for an easier stay away from home or out of the cold weather:
- Tooth brush and tooth paste
- Mouthwash
- Comb/brush
- Travel size tissues
- Unscented Baby Wipes
- Travel size shampoo, deodorant, shower gel, razors
- Toilet paper
- Bandaids, or other first aid items
- Feminine hygiene products
- Bottled water
- Fruit juice boxes
- Flashlight/batteries
- Backpack
- Warm socks, T-shirt
- Hats, gloves, scarves
- Healthy snack
- Playing cards
- Energy drink
These items can be donated separately or you can create your Blessing Bags with a group of colleagues, family members, congregation or friends. One gallon Ziploc bags are perfect for most items.
