Who We Are
This feeding ministry was launched in 2007 to provide a nutritious meal to all members of the community on the last Saturday of each month. The meals are served from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm and coincide with the food distribution from St. Brigid?s Pantry at St. James Episcopal Church in Long Branch. Through this program we have been able to feed over 500 people in the last year and provided an atmosphere of welcome and fellowship to those outside our doors. The name of the ministry has been titled ?Sarah?s Feast based on two scriptural references: Genesis 18:1-8 ? Sarah?s feeding of the angels who visited her and Abraham. Hebrews 13:1-2 - ?Let brother love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. We are always looking for ways expand the ministry to additional Saturday?s during the month. Those who would like to contribute by donating and preparing a meal in a loving way are encouraged to speak with Robert Goodman at 732-728-1943.
What We Do
Dear friends of Sarah's Feast, We will be officially kicking-off our guest chef program the coming year on Saturday, September 3, 2011 for Sarah's Feast. The first guest chef volunteers will be from PLR (Peace, Love and Respect). We have many other dates available for those who wish to participate in this program by helping to serve the needy in the Long Branch community. We typically need 4-6 volunteers on a Saturday afternoon to prepare meals for Sarah's Feast. We prepare several sets of meals - one that will be served that evening as well as several needed during the week during other distribution times for St. Brigid's Food Pantry. Cooking experience is helpful, but not necessary. We will provide ingredients for cooking, but are DEEPLY grateful for groups that will provide their own ingredients. We typically prepare meals for up to 45 people on a Saturday and upwards of 70 to 100 on Monday's and Wednesday's. Donations of plastic plates, cups and flatware are DEEPLY appreciated (napkins, too!). In the winter time, we usually aim to prepare a meal for approximately 45 people. We typically start cooking at 3:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon and serve the meal from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. With enough volunteers, we are usually cleaned up and ready to depart by 8:00 pm. In addition to the meal that evening, we are often preparing dishes that will be used later in the week when St. Brigid's is open for distribution. Meals can also prepared off-site and delivered to our facility at St. James Episcopal Church, 300 Broadway, Long Branch, New Jersey 07740 (church phone is 732-222-1411). If preparing a meal off-site, please deliver in a large aluminum tray covered in foil with the meal name marked on top. Volunteers can coordinate meal drop-offs by contact 732-222-1411 during normal working hours or 732-245-6911 in the evenings or weekends. Have a special recipe or soup that you'd like to share? :-) Would you please consider selecting a date to volunteer? Please let me know as soon as possible what date you would like and what you would like to cook.
