Volunteer: Phenomenal Food Pantry Assistant

 

The Salvation Army in Red Bank needs reliable volunteers who can help with the maintenance and operations of their year round food pantry. Specific duties and responsibilities include: help stock food pantry shelves; assist with food delivery; occasionally assist with food drives; check for expiration dates; keep food items in rotation; help stock the walk-in freezer; push a loaded shopping cart; package food items and occasionally assemble boxes.

Ideally volunteer is able to work with a diverse group of people. Volunteer must be able to read dates and product labels; (if able) to push a loaded flat-bed cart. If applicable, withstand cold temperatures within the walk-in freezer and dress accordingly. Please keep in mind. not all skills and qualifications are necessary to apply.

Once a month, strong, able-bodied volunteers are needed to receive the food that is delivered from Fulfill's truck. Pallets of food arrive to our gym doors which then have to be transported to our food pantry and either stocked in shelves, placed in the commercial refrigerators or placed in our walk-in freezers. This role will receive on the spot instruction from the Manager-in-Charge of food pantry and will possess or be willing to learn food rotation methods. This role is instrumental in fighting hunger within the communities we serve. 

The right volunteer will:

Qualifications:  Minimum of eighteen years of age.  Some experience working with children.  Desire and ability to work with children.

General Responsibilities:  Supervise children during youth program activities and assist Afterschool Director with implementation of daily program.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

Spend each program day with children enrolled in the program. Assist children with homework as needed. Check that homework is complete and correct. Encourage reading during reading time. Be alert for matters that may affect child safety. Build positive relationships with the children. Encourage positive behavior. Set up and clean up facilities as required. Perform any other duties as required by the Afterschool Director to aid the program.
