Volunteer: Care Giving FriendsCare Giving Friends
The Care Giving Friends program partners with local churches to establish teams of volunteers to provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to older adults in need of assistance. The team approach allows time flexibility for volunteers (typically 1-2 hours per month) while still providing a variety of services. Without this assistance, many older adults face losing their independence. Love Thy Neighbor works with churches by training volunteers and helping to identify older adults in need. In addition, we act as a referral source for aging adults for resources with Monmouth County, including areas such as Medicare by offering free help to Medicare beneficiaries through a State Health Insurance Assistance (SHIA) Counselor. In 2016, our Care Giving Friends volunteers donated 2,345 hours of transportation to the doctor, errands, grocery shopping, preparing meals, yard maintenance, visits and prayers for many older adults.
